Interviews

Move over country music as “Anemoia” raps and puts The Blue Ridge Mountains on the map.

1. What’s your name?
Everett, or Evo. My handle is Anemoia
2. Where are you from?
Covington, VA, small town in southwestern Virginia in the heart of the Blue Ridge.
3. How old are you?
I am 28.
4 .When did you start making music
Back in 2014, but I didn’t take it seriously until 2019 when my first Collab with Lil Ego dropped.
That’s where I really started gaining momentum and started refining the sounds I wanted to hear thereafter.
5. How serious are you about your career?
As serious as I want to be heard. I take my music seriously. It is a passion, of course, but for me it’s an incorporation of everything about my experiences and compartmentalized in a way that words and emotion alone don’t capture. It is me.
6. Have you ever thought about quitting music?
Not for a second. I consider myself an artisan with my craft.
7. Who inspires you the most?
Although I could list many many people, I’d have to say my 6 year old son. He has such a passion within him that I know will grow just as mine has.
8.What got you into making music?
My childhood friend and engineer Lil Ego. The chemistry our collaborative and solo efforts can really be felt. We were both going thru some traumatic stuff at the time and he put me in front of that mic and now it’s where I’m at when I am outside of the home or the day job.
9.Who is your favorite producer?
Honestly, I really enjoy what my own producer puts out. He’s got this magic touch that really graces the tracks with the attention I’d be putting into it myself, and that matters to me.
10. What is one of your best songs/beats?
So far, I am in love with the intro to my upcoming debut album, which drops April 5.
It’s about the indoctrination of beliefs that have caused my demographic to be let down by those that were supposed to guide us.
11. Are you signed to a record or label?
No I am independent. I current have made all my music with Ego. Its always a pleasure working with him.
12. Have you ever performed?
I did an unplanned last minute show at a bar in my nearest city. Was a fun experience, but I was only a year into making music at the time. Would love to perform under more appropriate circumstances for sure.
13. Who would you most likely collaborate with?
I’ll always take pride in collaborating with Ego. But if I could work with some of the other heads in the indie scene I’ve taken a fondness for, like 93feetofsmoke, Nothing, Nowhere, or Sewerperson it would be an experience for me, definitely.
14. If you could open for any artist who would it be?
Any of the artists I’ve mentioned in the previous question, but outta those examples, i’d love to open for Nothing, Nowhere. Joe was my introduction to this Midwest emo sound I’ve just really applied to my own sounds.
15. What’s next for you?
My continued growth as an artist, songwriter, singer. I take such pride in my writing because so much of myself is spilled into it, like countless others artists throughout the history of music and art. I feel I have a lot of music that is so raw and relatable, I have this feeling that people NEED to hear it, and that’s my endgame. To be heard.
