JKE Rings In The NEW Year With A Detailed Tell ALL

Coming out of the DMV with vision, conviction, and a refusal to follow industry shortcuts, Jay King is part of something bigger than a solo run. As a founding force behind JKE, a fully independent collective built on artistry, intention, and respect for music’s roots, Jay King represents a new generation looking backward to move forward. Blending inspiration from classic eras with a modern understanding of culture and audience, JKE’s approach prioritizes substance over spectacle. In this interview, Jay King breaks down the purpose behind the music, the philosophy driving the collective, and why staying independent isn’t just a choice—it’s the mission.

What made you want to pursue a career in music?

It’s my God-given purpose, and I’m so passionate about this and the next generation moving forward.

Can you share some highlights of your music career so far?

The biggest highlight for me was the forming of JKE, the collective. It’s honestly shifted the entire focus and plan going into next year, and we’re entering uncharted territory.

How would you describe your style and sound as an artist?

JKE comes with three unique sounds, all inspired by older eras.

Jig, our rapper, brings a strong East Coast ’90s influence—big on messaging, metaphors, and lyricism.

We also have a pop/alternative phenom who’s an incredible musician and guitarist, and honestly one of the best performers you’ll see live. He channels a strong ’60s/’70s vibe, which makes his style really special to watch.

And last but not least, King, our R&B superstar, who probably has the highest ceiling. He’s bringing light back to R&B—he can sing, dance, and truly perform. His inspiration comes from what he calls “real R&B,” spanning the ’80s through the 2000s.

JKE has three distinct sounds and brands, so there’s truly something for everyone.

In what ways do you believe your music resonates with your audience?

I believe our music resonates because we’re meeting people where they’re at. Each artist in the collective has a different fan base and touches listeners in different ways.

Some connect deeply with Jig’s heartfelt bars, others with Jay’s emotional lyrics, and others with King’s sensual, seductive presence. There’s something for everyone to love and connect with—and we genuinely love making music.

How do you approach collaboration with other musicians or producers?

I don’t really approach for collaborations. We do a lot of self-producing on our end. Before reaching out to anyone, we’d want to deep-dive into their sound and approach them with genuine praise and support.

Personally, I’d want someone to know I’m a fan and supporter of theirs first—before anything else.

Can you share any experiences working with a team, or are you truly independent?

JKE is the team—period. We are truly independent and plan to stay that way until we find people who are 100% invested in our growth and not trying to split us up or separate us.

We believe in us, so we need others  who believe in us just as much.

Have you had any significant achievements or accolades you’re particularly proud of?

Our R&B singer King headlined a festival this year at SpringUrbanFest in late June. He debuted his single that night, and the atmosphere was incredible—everyone was thoroughly impressed.

Back in 2024, Jig landed on a radio station in Atlanta just one week after releasing his first EP, which was huge for us.

And our pop artist made waves across European radio and blogs with his song “Vanish” this past summer.

We’ve all had moments to be proud of—and we’re excited for even more heading into 2026.

What motivates you to continue pushing yourself as an artist?

Seeing the direction music is going. The industry tried to build a new foundation that required less talent and more technology, and in doing so we lost essence across genres and identity as well.

Have you faced any challenges in your career, and how did you overcome them?

When you’re doing something unprecedented—like building a self-made collective—you’re going to face doubters, including yourself. A lot of people won’t understand the territory you’re stepping into.

Being independent means funding everything, budgeting, creating your own opportunities, and posting consistently. You are your own machine. But if you truly love what you do, none of these things feel like challenges—the process becomes the most fun part.

What is the next single you want to release?

All of us are working right now, but we’re expecting King to follow up his debut R&B project “Before It’s Too Late” with new music around Valentine’s Day. Follow the page and stay tuned.
