Soundgaud Is Walking His Own Path In The Shadow Of Greatness

When you’re related to one of the biggest names in hip-hop, the pressure can be real. But for Soundgaud — artist, storyteller, and cousin to Kendrick Lamar — it’s not about living in anyone’s shadow. It’s about staying true to his own voice and building something lasting.

“I’ve known Kendrick my whole life,” he says. “We grew up eating syrup sandwiches at our grandma Estelle’s house. She used to tell us we’d all be stars one day and even pointed at me when I was still a kid. At the time, I didn’t know what she meant. Then Kendrick took off, and it all made sense.”

That family connection gave Soundgaud more than inspiration. It gave him belief.

“I always admired how Kendrick carried himself. But it was really The Eminem Show that taught me how to write. It showed me how to tell stories through music.”

Soundgaud’s story is his own. Born from a love of sound across genres like R&B, rap, and rock, his name reflects his mission. “I created the name Soundgaud because I want to be known for my love of music, not just one style. I even go by 444k to stand out more.”

While Kendrick’s legacy is undeniable, Soundgaud makes it clear he’s forging his own lane. “It doesn’t feel like I’m in his shadow. I’m just walking my own path like he did.”

So what kind of artist is Soundgaud? One who’s deeply reflective, yet ready to bring the party. “I want my music to feel like a Van Gogh painting full of depth and emotion but also have the peace and positivity of a Bob Ross piece. Lately, I’ve been working on more club music. I feel like that vibe is missing and I want to bring it back. That’s why I’m excited about my upcoming single One Drink.”

Soundgaud also isn’t afraid to show vulnerability. “The toughest part was showing up to music video shoots without money or even a car. But I kept going. I knew my time was coming. You just have to stay consistent and creative.”

When asked which Kendrick lyric best reflects where he’s at in life, his answer is simple: “Overly Dedicated. That says it all.”

And if Kendrick wasn’t family? “I’d still look up to him. He’s creative, original, and he won a Pulitzer. That’s something nobody can copy. It showed hip-hop is just as powerful as any other art form.”

Above all, Soundgaud hopes his music connects people and maybe even brings his own family closer together. “I miss the days we’d all hang out at cookouts just enjoying each other. I’m not trying to be different. I’m just being myself and letting the music speak.”
