Despite facing significant criticism for her endorsement of President Donald Trump, Nicki Minaj continues to dominate as one of hip-hop’s most commercially viable artists—and she’s reframing the controversy entirely.
The Trinidadian rapper, who has weathered numerous controversies throughout her career, sparked intense fan backlash with her political stance. Rather than viewing the pushback as damaging, Minaj appears to see it as validation. Earlier this week, she quote-tweeted a report highlighting her surging Spotify numbers, which showed the largest boost for female rappers across multiple national charts including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Nigeria. The report also noted she gained 10.1 million daily streams, significantly above her average.
“Winning is the new canceled. Thank you, Barbz. Love you. For LIFE,” she wrote. While she didn’t explicitly link the streaming surge to her Trump support, the timing and context make the connection difficult to dismiss.
This isn’t the first time the 43-year-old has doubled down on her political positions. Most recently, on Friday (March 20), she tweeted about the Save America Act, urging followers to pressure their congressional representatives to pass the legislation. “Do politicians realize it will be the beginning of the end for them if the #SaveAmericaAct doesn’t pass?,” she posted. “I think they believe it would just be a little gotcha moment toward Trump & that they’ll ride off happily into the sunset cheating, lying, committing more fraud & prioritizing their new illegal immigrant base over their own citizens. Do they not realize the ppl have now seen behind the curtain & that can’t be undone?”
Beyond politics, Minaj has other ongoing conflicts. She has faced criticism for her attacks on Jay-Z and Roc Nation, having allegedly insinuated that she hired attorney Tony Buzbee—who represented Jay-Z’s sexual assault accuser and is currently in a defamation dispute with the Brooklyn mogul.
Meanwhile, Minaj’s rap beefs continue generating headlines through proxy battles. Megan Thee Stallion and BIA recently exchanged shade using Minaj and Cardi B’s respective diss tracks against them, further solidifying allegiances in an increasingly fragmented landscape.
