Chris Brown’s legal challenge to the 2024 docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence has been dismissed. The series aired on Investigation Discovery (ID) and examined allegations tied to Brown’s past, including claims of abuse and misconduct.
In January of last year, Brown filed suit against Warner Bros. and the production company Ample, alleging defamation. His complaint asserted that the companies published false claims despite being presented with evidence he said disproved them. At the time, his attorney, Levi McCathern, criticized the defendants, arguing that large corporations should prioritize the impact on individuals’ lives.
This week, however, Billboard reported that Judge Colin Leis dismissed the case. In his ruling, the judge said he personally reviewed the entire documentary and found that it acknowledged inconsistencies highlighted by Brown, including references to text messages. He concluded that the media defendants presented a “fair and true” account of the statements and the related judicial records.
Brown has not publicly commented on the dismissal. He retains the option to appeal the decision should he choose to pursue it.
The documentary’s official description states that it traces Brown’s life back to a troubled childhood, explores cycles of abuse, and examines how a public figure with a history of allegations has maintained superstar status—incorporating expert analysis and survivor perspectives throughout.
