Jhené Aiko has officially reached a new career milestone. Nearly 13 years after first appearing on the Billboard 200, the Los Angeles R&B star has landed her first-ever No. 1 album with Westside Whimsy.
The singer’s latest project debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart dated September 26, moving 74,000 equivalent album units in the United States during its opening tracking week. The achievement also makes Westside Whimsy the first album by a female R&B artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2026.
For Aiko, the moment represents the latest step in a career filled with increasingly strong chart performances. She first entered the Billboard 200 with Sail Out in 2013, which peaked at No. 8. Souled Out followed with a No. 3 finish, while Trip reached No. 5 in 2017.
Her previous chart high came with 2020’s Chilombo. The album opened at No. 2 and later earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. With Westside Whimsy now sitting at No. 1, Aiko has secured her sixth Top 10 project on the Billboard 200.
Streaming Drives Westside Whimsy To The Top
A major part of the album’s impressive debut came from streaming. Billboard reports that approximately 70,000 of its 74,000 opening-week units came from streaming-equivalent activity, with the project generating 71.33 million official on-demand streams.
Traditional album purchases contributed another 3,500 units, while track-equivalent sales accounted for the remaining 500. The project also opened at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums chart.
The chart success is particularly notable considering how quickly Aiko rolled out the album. Westside Whimsy arrived on September 11 after being formally announced only three days earlier. Despite the short promotional window, the 20-track project immediately connected with listeners.
The album features an impressive collection of guests, including Kendrick Lamar on “So Good,” Ab-Soul on “Love Bomb,” Tyga on “Like, Whatever,” Larry June on “Neighbors,” and OHMA on the closing track “Golden Coast.”
Westside Whimsy also marks Aiko’s first full-length studio album since Chilombo, making the No. 1 debut an especially significant return after a six-year gap.
Aiko celebrated the accomplishment on Instagram by thanking the fans who helped make the moment possible. She later summed up the milestone with a simple message: “What’s mine is ours.”
