Freddie Gibbs isn’t holding back when it comes to the rise of A.I. in music. In a recent conversation with The Ringer, the Indiana rapper called out artists who use tools like ChatGPT to help craft their verses.
“Look at AI rap now, man. I don’t even believe if you really make it anymore,” Gibbs said. “I’ve been in studios where motherfuckers are using ChatGPT and I’m like, ‘What the fuck?’ I’m actually making fresh shit.”
He continued by criticizing the trend as lazy: “Heart is dying and you got to ask a computer to write your lyrics, shit is wack.”
On top of that, Gibbs revealed some tension with Kanye West during the making of Vultures 1. His verse on “Back to Me” reportedly got more praise than Ye’s, which didn’t sit well.
“Kanye was mad, telling people like, ‘How the fuck he think his verse is the best on my album?’” Gibbs said. “I thought he’d be proud of me, but instead it felt like a slap in the face.”
