Dead Hendrix: The Punk-Rap Artist Blazing His Own Path

Born Gavin Kratt but known as Dead Hendrix, Hendrix for short, this rapper has made a name for himself with his unique blend of punk and rap, capturing the energy and attitude of both genres. But his journey to becoming a musician was far from easy. Growing up in shelters and on the streets, Hendrix had a chaotic upbringing, with an alcoholic mother and a sense of never fitting in at school. However, writing was something that he excelled at, and it was through the world of rap music that he found solace, feeling that the lyrics of his favorite artists spoke to him and his experiences. This was the start of his obsession with rap, and he started to think that maybe, just maybe, he could make a career out of it. Dead Hendi’s creative process is varied, sometimes starting with a beat he’s obsessed with and driving around aimlessly with the volume turned up high, while other times, he heads to the studio with no plan and sees what magic comes out. He believes that the studio is where the real creativity happens, and where something amazing can come out of practically nothing. For Dead Hendrix, the most important thing about his music is being true to how he feels and giving an experience that others can relate to, balanced out with sounds that fans can bump their heads to and blast through their speakers. Growing up in the early 2000s, punk rock was everywhere, and he idolized the lead singers of bands like All American Rejects and The Offspring. As he got older, he discovered rappers like Kevin Gates and Machine Gun Kelly, and it was this collision of influences that helped him find his own unique style. Dead Hendi’s latest release is Mustang, a collaboration with Yungcudii. It’s the first single from his upcoming solo album and is an excellent example of the type of music he’s always wanted to make, combining elements of punk and rap to create something that screams “rockstar” to both fanbases.

For Dead Hendrix, collaborations are exciting and allow artists to combine their talents to create something truly unique. He believes the best collaborations happen naturally, for the music, rather than for money. Looking back on his career, Dead Hendrix is proud of the work he’s done with AllCapYow and the upcoming “Ottawa X Toronto” album, where he’s featured on a track with Toronto rapper 3mFrench. He’s also proud of the Dead Summer EP he released with Levi Zadoff, which established him as a real artist in his city and opened up new opportunities for him. However, the most significant accomplishment for him is his fanbase, TWD, who he loves performing for and who connect with his music on a personal level. As he moves forward, Dead Hendrix plans to continue working with artists he respects, putting on for his fans, performing in different cities, and expanding his growth, all while showing the ones who doubt him what he’s capable of. For this punk-rap artist, the sky’s the limit.
