Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow’s Trump Endorsement Sparks Hot 97 Debate

The intersection of hip-hop and politics has never been more evident than in the recent clash between rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow and Hot 97 radio host Peter Rosenberg. The controversy began after the rappers attended a Trump rally in the Bronx, publicly endorsing the former president, leading Rosenberg to call for their removal from the Hot 97 Summer Jam lineup.

On May 30th, Rosenberg voiced his strong disapproval on-air, stating, “I’m disgusted. Hit ’em both with the button as far as I’m concerned.” He went further to ensure everyone at the station was aware of his stance, pushing for the rappers’ exclusion from the event. Rosenberg clarified his position, adding, “I just want y’all to know, that is me, Karen Rosenberg, I don’t want ’em on Summer Jam.”

The upcoming Summer Jam features Sleepy Hallow among its performers, including stars like Doja Cat and French Montana. Although Sheff G isn’t officially listed, his frequent collaborations with Sleepy Hallow suggest a potential appearance.

Rosenberg acknowledged Sleepy Hallow’s laughter during his Trump endorsement but argued it exacerbated the situation. “You can tell it’s a big joke to him, which to me in some ways makes it worse,” he said, critiquing the sincerity of Sleepy’s support.

The rappers quickly reacted on social media. Sleepy Hallow’s response was terse, sharing the radio host’s clip with a derisive comment on his Instagram Stories. Sheff G took a more reflective approach, questioning the freedom to hold differing political views without facing professional repercussions.

“Damn.. thought we was free to vote for whoever we wanted… I never knew we had to have the same political opinion as @laurastylez @oldmanebro @rosenbergradio in order to gain success[.] imagine that…,” Sheff G wrote. He lamented the lack of acknowledgment for his achievements from these figures and criticized their sudden interest in his political stance.

At the rally, Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow stood with Trump, with Sheff highlighting the tendency to whisper accomplishments while shouting failures. Sleepy Hallow’s endorsement, “Make America great again!” resonated with the crowd, drawing enthusiastic responses.

Their participation drew mixed reactions, with Trump supporters like Amber Rose praising their stance, while others speculated about ulterior motives related to their legal issues. The incident underscores the complex relationship between hip-hop culture and political expression, igniting debates within the community about the role of artists in political discourse.
