Emerging from Jersey City, New Jersey, Joey Vells is steadily carving out his place in music with a sound rooted in melody, emotion, and authenticity. Blending hip-hop, rap, and R&B, his style reflects both personal growth and a deep connection to music that began long before the studio.
Joey’s journey started in church, where he played the drums as a child. That early exposure didn’t just teach him rhythm—it helped him develop a natural ear for sound and a deeper, almost spiritual connection to music. Over time, that foundation transitioned into recording, eventually leading to his debut release, “No Distractions.”
Drawing inspiration from artists like Gunna, Future, R. Kelly, and Usher, Joey has developed a fluid sound that effortlessly moves between rap and melody. His music is driven by feeling, with each track capturing a different mindset or emotional state. Rather than following a strict formula, he allows the beat to guide his creativity, writing all of his lyrics based on real-life experiences and energy in the moment.
Outside of mainstream influences, Joey also taps into gospel, jazz, and even frequency-based sounds to shape the atmosphere of his records. This diverse palette gives his music a unique depth that separates it from the crowd.
Remaining independent, Joey Vells is focused on maintaining creative control while staying open to opportunities like distribution deals. His journey hasn’t relied heavily on outside support—he credits much of his drive to self-motivation and discipline. Still, his brother Dee, also known as 9111, plays a key role behind the scenes as both producer and engineer, helping bring Joey’s vision to life.
With live performances already reaching crowds of up to 100 people, Joey’s ambitions stretch far beyond intimate venues. He envisions himself on some of the biggest stages in the New York and New Jersey area, including Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center, and MetLife Stadium.
Looking ahead, Joey Vells is currently working on a full-length project accompanied by visuals designed to fully engage his audience. With a clear vision and unwavering focus, he’s determined to elevate his name to a global level—moving forward with purpose and, true to his message, no distractions.
