Interview With Multi-Talented Rapper/Songwriter Mann J

What is your name/stage name?
Mann J

Where are you from?
Houston, Texas

What do you do?
Far as music go I’m a rapper, songwriter, and engineer.

How long have you been making music?
I’ve been makin’ music since I was 16, but taking it seriously,
and really putting all my business together
to really do this 21.

Who’s your biggest inspiration?
Musically I’d say a mixture of UGK and Lil’ Wayne. I noticed early
that’s who I’d borderline imitate a lot, until I found my own sound
and style and ran with just being me and doing what I felt. To this
day people still say they can hear traces of the two in my voice
when I talk and rap.

What genre of music do you create?
Rap

What was it like working with (Scenicwood Dondada, Kami Supra, JD,
and TTG Jojo) It’s cool for real. You know we all come from the
same place, and do the same thing. Them the homies for real
especially with Don and JD workin’ with me under my label.
Then throw in that we all grew up together.

What are some features you have?
Scenicwood Dondada, Kami Supura, JD, TTG Jojo, HilfigEric,
SNS Kikho (free my boy he coming home soon).

What are some features you want to get?
I don’t really be just having a list of features I want to get.
I don’t ever sit down and say, “I want to work with this person,
and that person”, unless its a specific idea I have. I be doing
features with people 9 times out of 10 as a spur of the moment
thing. Like on some we meet, then lock in.

Who’s one person, dead or alive, that you’d want to work with?
Again I don’t really think about that. Just whatever opportunity
presents itself, presents itself.

Are you signed to a label?
Yes. My own label that I started in 2021 Imperial
Committee Entertainment.

Do you want a record deal, a distribution deal, or none?
I’d do a distribution deal. Because with a record deal if you don’t
have much leverage them people really own you for real. I’ve
personally watched instances where I see artists get pimped
and turned out for real, because they couldn’t get a better
situation. But with a distro deal it be like they put up
some money, you put up some money, and it be a real
partnership. With the connections and network that
I have for me and my people I know how to make stuff
happen with that. But that’s not to say that a
record deal is completly off the table.

Who are your biggest supporters?
My gang for real. My members. My team. And everyone on my “staff”.
Everything I do they behind 1000%. Sometimes they more behind it
than me. I done got confidence about some stuff from them, because
I really didn’t like it at first. And people turned out to mess with it.

Where did your name come from?
My name is an acronym. M-A-N-N. Man All N Now. I came up with that
because since I was little everything I’ve ever really just given
a damn about I give my all to and don’t let up if I really want
to do it for real. and the J is the
first initial of my first name Jason.

What are you currently working on?
I am working on releasing the deluxe version to my tape “If We Being
Honest” that came out earlier this year in February. Right now we go
the release date at Friday May 27th. And we got videos, merch, shows
lined up and all that ready to go. Plus a film project so stay up
for that. Oh and some new singles to turn the Summer up fasho.
I’m finna drop back to back to back. They gon’ be sick of me!

What is your latest release?
If We Being Honest (mixtape) Feb 11th earlier this year.

When is your next release?
Next Friday, May 27th the deluxe to “If We Being Honest”.
