Interview with Minnesota’s own Erick Christopher Berg Aka “Rick E Suave.”

1. What’s your name?
Erick Christopher Berg but I go by
Rick E or Rick E Suave
2. Where are you from?
Originally born and bred in Minnesota and grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis and St. Paul but I’ve lived all over from California to Mexico to spending a month in Ireland but I now live in Arizona.
3. How old are you?
34
4 .When did you start making music
I started learning the keyboards and guitar at the age of 10 and eventually taught myself the drums and ableton / FL studios. My first band was called “Brutal Poodle” Lmao we were a nirvana and sublime cover band. Over the years I have taught myself more and more on ableton and FL studios through watching HOURS of YouTube videos and mostly trial and error.
5. How serious are you about your career?
Music is MY LIFE I’ve been working deadend jobs my whole life and have lived through hell but the only thing that gives me any kind of peace or solace in this world is when I sit down to make new music. For me when I’m making beats and new pieces time literally stands still for me. I mean I’ve actually had whole DAYS go by when I’m just in the zone hashing out a new song. Music is what makes me who I am.
6. Have you ever thought about quitting music?
I don’t think it’s in me to quit. Even if I’m just doing this for fun for the rest of my life I will.
7. Who inspires you the most?
My biggest inspiration in life is my lord and savior JC
But my musical inspirations are extremely broad my top 5 inspirations (in no particular order) are:
-Trent reznor
-Moby
-Joyner Lucas
-Thom Yorke
-Derek Vincent smith
8.What got you into making music?
I remember growing up listening to all the greatest 80s and 90s rock bands and musicians like Metallica and Phil collins and NWA. I remember thinking that there’s something amazing about every song. Whether it’s the lyrics or the musical composition I couldn’t get enough of it and I still can’t! I love finding new and great musicians and when I hear something I like I usually don’t forget them.
9.Who is your favorite producer?
Probably Trent Reznor or Derek Vincent smith it’s a toss up
10. What is one of your best songs/beats?
One of my most popular songs is a song I produced for MaxM called “Closer” but my personal favorite and the one I think is my triumph is Mixed Emotions
11. Are you signed to a record or label?
No
12. Have you ever performed?
Yes I’m Minneapolis back in 2012 but have been working jobs just to make ends meet these days.
13. Who would you most likely collaborate with?
Derek Vincent smith or Trent reznor
14. If you could open for any artist who would it be?
I personally would LOVE to open for either Joyner or JCole
15. What’s next for you?
I guess we’ll see.. only god knows the answer to that.
