GloRilla Gives Back to Melrose High with $25,000 Donation to Create the Gloria H. Woods Media Center

GloRilla is showing that true success is about lifting others up. On December 18, the Glorious creator returned to her hometown of Memphis to give back to her alma mater, Melrose High School, with a generous $25,000 donation. This gift will fund the creation of the Gloria H. Woods Media Center, named after her real name, in a heartfelt tribute to her roots. The donation will go toward several projects designed to transform the school’s learning environment, starting with a redesign of the library into a collaborative space featuring modern seating and allergen-free carpets.

During her visit, GloRilla reflected on her own experiences as a student at Melrose and the importance of giving back. “To be able to create something I wished for growing up warms my heart,” she shared with the students, who received the news as an early Christmas gift. Her commitment to Melrose High extends beyond financial support—she’s invested in fostering educational growth and providing opportunities for the next generation.

The donation will also enhance the school’s learning software, equipping students with advanced tools for research and productivity. Additionally, GloRilla is launching the GloRilla Mentorship Program, which will offer students personal development opportunities, such as field trips and direct video chats with the rapper herself. Practical support is part of the initiative as well, with $2,500 allocated to the Melrose Clothes Closet to provide students in need with essentials like toiletries and clothing. Another $2,500 will go toward strengthening family-school connections through the Office of Family Engagement, helping to build a more supportive community.

The Gloria H. Woods Media Center is set to open next summer, serving as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the students of Melrose High. GloRilla’s return to her roots proves that she’s not just a rising star—she’s a symbol of possibility for those who dream big. With two Grammy nominations in 2024 for Best Rap Song and Rap Performance, GloRilla’s achievements continue to inspire, reinforcing that the greatest victories are the ones we share.
