Rapper Future could be headed for contempt of court—and potentially behind bars—after failing to secure a life insurance policy for his son, according to legal documents obtained by Complex. His ex-girlfriend Brittni Mealy, mother to their son Prince, has petitioned the court to hold him accountable for ignoring a 2023 order that mandated he obtain $500,000 in coverage naming her as trustee.
“More than eighteen (18) months have passed since the compliance deadline,” Mealy’s filing states. “Despite several written requests over the course of several months, [Future] has failed and refused to comply.”
This latest legal skirmish is far from their first public battle. Mealy previously made headlines in 2021 when she accused Future of texting their son to call her a “h*e” during a conversation about school clothes. She threatened to release recordings of the exchange, writing on Instagram: “DEFINITELY NOT CAP!… THEY NEED TO CANCEL YOU. Cruelty to children!” She noted Future hadn’t seen Prince in three months despite living in the same state, suggesting the insult stemmed from her refusal to maintain a sexual relationship and her insistence on co-parenting boundaries.

That same year, Mealy sued for increased child support. A 2023 ruling revealed Future earns $30,000 monthly yet had been paying only $3,000 for Prince—arguing it sufficiently covered expenses. The judge sided with Mealy, also addressing her complaints about his absentee parenting, which Future attributed to his erratic touring schedule.
The life insurance order was presumably part of that 2023 settlement, designed to protect Prince’s financial future should something happen to his father. Future’s refusal to follow through for over a year and a half suggests either defiance, disorganization, or ongoing hostility toward Mealy.
With seven children total—including sons Jakobi, Future Zahir, Hendrix, Kash, and daughters Londyn and Paris—Future’s paternal obligations are sprawling. But Mealy appears determined to enforce this one, even if it means seeing her ex in handcuffs.
