Interviews

Dean Cee is predicted to be the hottest new artist out of LA in 2022.

1. What’s your name?

Dean Cee

2. Where are you from?

Indiana but based out of LA

3. How old are you?

26

4 .When did you start making music?

I’ve been in music since grade school but didn’t start taking it seriously until 2018 when I started learned to make my own beats since I didn’t know anyone in LA at the time and I was broke.

5. How serious are you about your career?

I dedicated everyday to writing/editing/mixing or planning how to make this music my everything, so I never have to do anything other than make music ever again. I’ll do it with everything I got and learn to do it all if I have to. There is no other option for me. I have to succeed.

6. Have you ever thought about quitting music?

Everyday of my life, it’s real hard trying to provide for a family that’s struggling, not being able to help out as much as you want because you gotta pay rent to eat yourself and gigs come few and far. But when I’m not doing music the world feels so much darker than it is and I feel completely powerless. Music makes me know I can do better and will do better. Me wanting to quit so I can provide is what is helping push so much harder to make it happen for my people and to show so many people like me that they can too, no matter where you come from and it’s ok to be weird along the way!

7. Who inspires you the most?

Kid Cudi would probably be one of my biggest inspiration sonically and how he is able to just tell how he feels so gracefully and in his own unique way that wasn’t what was popular it was what was real and the frequencies just feel like they are tunes just for me. But as far as my biggest inspiration of all time it’s gotta be momma Dukes. I love my MOM, she’s one of the hardest working and caring individuals that has ever existed! She will literally give the clothes off her own back to a person if they needed it. A true saint that woman.

8.What got you into making music?

I had been to several schools as a kid and got kicked out of a bunch of those schools and churches due to behavior issues and kid shit. I had done a bunch of stuff and I was from the hood so at schools and things no one really betted on me and rightfully so because I sucked. I was on my last chance in a public school before I was sent to secondary school and this last chance school happened to be the only art school in Indiana so I auditioned and got in. I was in a music and art atmosphere a lot and one of the teachers took a chance on me and kinda helped me get my act together and taught me the love of words and frequencies. Then once I discovered the freedom in a verse that I could escape and create an auditory world of my own that no one can say is right or wrong I just went crazy with it. Been hooked.

9.Who is your favorite producer?

Monte Booker and Jpegmafia go crazy! The bass Peggy has and how raw everything feels just gets me and the synth work Monte does is just beautiful.

10. What is one of your best songs/beats?

I would say one of my best song I’ve ever recorded is not out yet so you definitely gotta stay plugged in with me because I promise it’ll rock extra hard! But the best song I have out would probably be “Spacey Kacey” ft. DoloDuceDuke. But the numbers say “Madara Uchiha” which is also one of my favorites the bass slaps extra hard!
But I absolutely can not deny “Shoes at the Door” is an absolute major slapper so probably that one!

11. Are you signed to a record or label?

I’m signed with my collective label started with my friends called “HiiiTriiibe” but I’m free to do whatever I want and make solo deals.

12. Have you ever performed?

Yeah, I have done several gigs, festivals and open mics open mic out here in LA. My biggest show was opening for the artist “Father” out in LA at Catch One.

13. Who would you most likely collaborate with?

I am always open to collab with anyone who is open minded. I’ve done almost every style of musical collab and I think it’s mad cool sharing a piece of yourself with other people to make some fire that helps people! But I would absolutely love to collab with Tobi Lou, Willow Smith, Chika, Kyle Dion, Joji, Remi Wolf and Umi would be sick but there’s so many people this list would be miles long.

14. If you could open for any artist who would it be?

KID CUDI, Remi Wolf or the band ISSUES. that would be extremely sick and Id might throw up but like good throw up

15. What’s next for you?

Ima keep doing the only thing I’m good at and keep making shit that makes me feel stuff and if I can help others along the way that’s mad cool too. Check out all my stuff and I’m probably dropping something next week or the week after!
